More Than a 5K: It’s a Community Celebration of Inclusion

When people hear “5K In My Shoes,” they often think of a race. While our annual 1K and 5K Run, Walk, and Roll are certainly at the heart of the event, the day is really about something much bigger. The 12th Annual 5K In My Shoes brings together individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, community members, businesses, service providers, and supporters for a morning focused on connection, inclusion, and belonging. Whether you cross the finish line first, stroll the course with friends, cheer from the sidelines, or participate virtually through our 5K In My Slippers option, every person helps create a stronger and more welcoming community.

Beyond the race itself, attendees can explore informational and community resource booths, enjoy music and light breakfast refreshments, connect with local organizations, participate in family-friendly activities, and learn more about the many ways people can get involved throughout the year. The event also includes opportunities for businesses and organizations to serve as sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and community partners, creating a true community gathering that celebrates the unique strengths and contributions of every individual.

At its core, 5K In My Shoes is an invitation to step into someone else’s experience and help build a community where everyone has the opportunity to live, love, work, and play their way. Whether you’re joining us for the race, participating in the Step Challenge, volunteering your time, or simply coming out to support friends and neighbors, your presence makes a difference. Together, we’re creating more than an event, we’re creating opportunities for empathy, understanding, and inclusion that extend far beyond race day.
