The Step Challenge runs alongside our 5K In My Shoes event, building momentum as we walk (or dance, or wheel!) toward connection, inclusion, and a healthier community. So lace up, sync your step counter, and let’s see just how far we can go—together!

What Is the Step Challenge?

Ready… set… step! The 5K In My Shoes Step Challenge is a fun and friendly competition open to Envision staff, family, friends, people supported, and partners! It’s all about moving more, supporting each other, and having a blast along the way. This year’s challenge will begin on May 1st and go through Saturday, June 6th. And June 6th, our 5K and 1K race day is Double Step Day!

New Sock & Shoe Drive for 2026!

New this year we are adding in a Sock & Shoe Drive that will benefit children in need at District 6! We are encouraging our step teams and anyone participating in our 5K to bring with them to the race, NEW socks youth sizes 12-4 and adult sizes 6-9 as well as gently used or new shoes that will be donated to District 6! There will be a collection bin at Envision during the race on June 6th that will be set up from 7:00am until 10:30am, where you can add your donated items. Give a Little – Help a Lot!

Here’s how the Step Challenge works:

  • Grab your crew! Form a team with your department, your family, or your walking buddies, you decide who will make up your team, All sized teams count as we do total steps but also results for average steps, and don’t forget to decide on a Team Name!
  • Choose your Fearless Leader. Every team needs a Team Captain to keep things organized.
  • Sign your Team Up! Team Captains will contact RuthMary Lyons at rlyons@envisionco.org to sign their team up for this year’s Step Challenge. Be prepared to share the names of all team members, as well as your team name. Teams are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. But are allowed to join in the fun at any time.
  • Track Those Steps! Whether you’re strolling through the neighborhood, chasing your kids, or marching through meetings—every step counts. Each week’s worth of steps will be tracked from 12:00am Sunday through 11:59pm Saturday of each week. The first week will be a short week starting at 12:00am on Friday, May 1st ending at 11:59pm on Saturday, May 2nd. The first full week of tracking will begin on Sunday, May 3rd and end Saturday, May 9th!
  • Report your Weekly Progress. Team Captains will collect their team’s steps and submit individual step counts every Monday for the previous week (Sunday through Saturday) by 5 PM to RuthMary. (We’re averaging steps, so your team of any size counts!)
  • Results will be Posted! Weekly results will be posted here on our 5K In My Shoes Website on our Step Challenge Page! The final weekly progress will be due June 8th by 5pm. (Remember steps on June 6th count as double!) As each team’s data is analyzed, the final results and overall winners will be posted! Its okay to let your competitive side out.
  • If you have any questions about the step challenge please email RuthMary.
